Tempur-Sealy Donates $2 Million to Kentucky Children's Hospital Sleep Center
— by Tempur-Pedic on Jun 16, 2022
At Tempur Sealy, our daily efforts reflect our purpose: to improve the sleep of countless people every night, all around the world. As a global leader in sleep innovation, we understand there’s an undeniable correlation between a good night’s sleep and your overall health and well-being. And beyond providing great sleep, we’re also committed to doing what’s right for the planet – and dedicated to helping communities both near and far.
We established the Tempur Sealy Foundation to improve the lives of children and families across the state of Kentucky, as well as the country. In addition to volunteering our time, the foundation has provided more than $100 million in products to a variety of causes that align with our mission. Over the past few years, we’ve donated nearly $700,000 to various charities that advocate for children in our communities.
In May of 2021, the Tempur Sealy Foundation made its largest gift to date; providing $2 million to the Kentucky Children’s Hospital to help establish the Tempur Sealy Pediatric Sleep Center. This center, scheduled to open in early 2024, will dedicate its resources to research and address a wide range of sleep challenges faced by children across the state. In the words of our CEO Scott Thompson, “Despite the large number of children impacted by sleep disorders, most sleep centers are designed to treat only adults. Right now, only three sleep centers in Kentucky accept children as patients, and the limited availability creates long wait times for the kids to receive their much-needed treatments.”
In the March 2022 edition of Vital Signs[1], UK HealthCare reported, “Pediatric sleep studies are currently conducted three days a week in the adult facilities at UK Good Samaritan Hospital. Infants younger than 18 months are often referred to facilities out of state. The arrangement is not uncommon. Of the 2,500 sleep centers across the country, only 33 of them are pediatric. The Tempur Sealy Pediatric Sleep Center will be the first pediatric sleep center in central Kentucky.”
This new center will operate six nights a week and be staffed by dedicated pediatric sleep experts – and most importantly, will allow patients to receive their needed care as quickly as possible. “We want to provide a child-friendly environment for kids in Kentucky so they can stay closer to home and receive the well-rounded care that every child deserves,” stated Chief of Pediatric Pulmonology, Jamshed Kanga.
We’re thrilled to be part of this new initiative at Kentucky Children’s Hospital, helping children across the Commonwealth achieve the restful, restorative sleep they deserve.
